HSI Title III Grant

2021-2026 HSI Title III Grant - Éxito STEM Scholars Project

STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) is a growing field in our country. In the last ten years, this field has increased by 17 percent, yet not enough students are prepared to enter this important field. Hispanics are the largest minority group that has immense potential and natural interest in this field, which gives our country and California an opportunity to advance in this much-needed field with better support systems and knowledge on how to build better access. Hispanic students will represent one in four people in our country, which means that preparation for this field is important to our country’s future. Chabot College is nestled in the Bay Area between two cities of STEM innovation and industry, San Francisco and San Jose, which means students have a greater chance of finding employment in this field.

“...Leadership tomorrow depends on how we educate our students, especially in STEM"
by Barack Obama, 44th US President

Éxito STEM Scholars
is an evidence-based approach to address the lack of representation of low-income and Latinx/e students in STEM fields. It includes a variety of activities, services, and strategies to help students explore, enter, and learn ways to complete pathways into STEM. These programs and services are funded by this grant:

  • Students prepare for and explore STEM pathways and programs (e.g. Summer Bridge, First Year Experience).
  • Students learn and progress on Chabot’s STEM guided pathways (e.g. Learning communities and Career Pathways, learning communities, MESA).
  • Students complete and transfer on STEM pathways through partnerships with local four-year universities, such as Cal State East Bay and UC (University of California) Berkeley. (e.g. HSI STEM).
