HSI - Hispanic Serving Institution
What is a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI)?
Chabot College has been proudly designated as a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI)
since 2008, by the United States Department of Education.
The benefits we've received as a HSI includes:
- The 2016 Title V grant.
- The 2021-2026 Title III STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) grant.
Benefits of Grants
We have been awarded over $7 million in grant funding which have allowed us to:
- Expand capacity in serving our low-income, Latinx/e population and to strengthen academic programming and management by adding funding to new and existing areas that support students’ academic success.
- Create or improve systems and spaces where students feel welcome, supported, and can succeed.
- Some of the resources that were funded by these grants are:
- El Centro
- Summer Bridge
- First Year Experience
- HSI STEM
- Activities funded by these grants are:
- Raza College Day
- STEM Day
- Guest Speaker Series
- Summer Bridge STEM
- Carnitas & Citations Workshop
- 4-year university tours with emphasis on STEM
- Work-based experiences
- Summer Research Internships
- STEM Family Night
We want to ensure that all students are meeting their academic goals and outcomes, whether earning a certificate, graduating, or transferring, while learning more about themselves. We hope when students understand we are in HSI, they feel a sense of belonging.
