ESL Mission Statement

Our mission in the Chabot College ESL department is to provide accessible, student-centered English language instruction that honors the dignity of our diverse student population and staff, with a curriculum that adapts to our community's evolving needs.

We believe in setting high expectations and providing a high level of support for students to reach their language, educational and career goals. Our classrooms are collaborative and dynamic learning spaces that honor our student’s diverse life experiences.

Department Culture 

We believe in cultivating a community of educators shaped by part-time and full-time faculty contributions. We prioritize funding our faculty to participate in departmental decisions, engage in professional development, and collaborate with one another in and out of the classroom. 

Community Responsibility 

We believe that our ESL program must be designed around and adaptive to the needs of the diverse immigrant and refugee communities in Hayward and surrounding cities. We are committed to reducing barriers to entry and connecting students to learning opportunities and community resources that will support their educational journey and overall well-being.
