Plan first semester for first time college students
Who is this for?
This guide is for first-time college students who:
- Have never attended a college or university before, except for high school concurrent/dual enrollment;
- And, planning to attend Chabot College in the coming semester.
Follow these steps to plan your classes for your first semester at Chabot College.
PREVIOUS STEPS
At this point, make sure you have already completed Steps 1-4 from the New, First Time College Student webpage.
STEP 5: Assessment & Placement
Complete the self-guided English and Math course selection in CLASS-Web for placement:
- Read and follow instructions
- Watch video on how to log into MyPortal

STEP 6: Plan your First Semester classes with the help of a counselor
The First Semester Planning sessions (FSPS) will help you plan out your first semester classes.
This is available only if:
- You're a new, first-time in college student planning to attend Chabot College as your primary campus;
- And, pursuing a degree/certificate or transfer.
FSPS is not for:
- High School Concurrent/Dual Enrollment students. They do not need to complete this step.
- Continuing Chabot College students or students who previously attended another college.
Please speak with a counselor, by drop-in or appointment, instead.
Schedule your First Semester Planning appointment
Please note:
- Appointments fill up quickly. If no appointments appear, please check back regularly as new appointments become available each week.
- For virtual sessions, you will be emailed a the zoom invitation 24 hours prior to your appointment.
- Please don't schedule same day appointments or appointments less than 24 hours ahead. You may not receive the Zoom invitation in time.
