Behavioral Health Traineeship - Summer 2026
Preparing Students for Wellness Ambassador Roles and Behavioral Health Careers
Overview
- This opportunity is open to students who are interested in pursuing a career in Social Work & Human Services, Psychology, or a related field, and/or who are curious about becoming a Certified Wellness Coach I (CWC). Because this program is supported by grant funding focused on youth and young adults, applicants must be 25 years old or younger by the first day of the Fall 2026 semester - See additional requirements below.
Outcomes

Participants will build foundational human services and behavioral health skills that support early entry into the behavioral health workforce.

Upon successful completion of the program, students will be eligible to apply for a Wellness Ambassador position at Chabot College for the Fall 2026–Spring 2027 academic year. Wellness Ambassadors work on campus 10–20 hours per week, promoting mental health awareness and the destigmatization of mental illness.

Summer Traineeship Program Highlights
- $1500 stipend
- 120 hours of experience (in person, virtual and self-paced)
- Free tuition for a class at Chabot related to your major
- Free Mental Health First Aid & Motivational Interviewing certification
2026 Dates
In person trainings - June 8 – July 10, 2026 - Mon & Tues - 10-3pm
Eligibility
- Must be age 25 or younger by August 24, 2026
- Must have a high school diploma or GED (2026 graduating seniors are eligible)
- Must be pursuing a degree in Social Work/Human Services, Psychology, or a related field
- Must be enrolled in at least one Behavioral Health–related course in Summer 2026
- Must be registered for at least 6 units at Chabot College in Fall 2026

- Passion for supporting the well-being of others, especially individuals who live within HPSA (Health Professional Shortage Areas)
- Desire and ability to work with a diversity of students as represented at Chabot College and in Alameda Country
- Embodment of empathy and compassion for others
- Ability to work within a team
- Self-motivated and can take inititiave
- Commitment to self-care
- Effective communication skills, including comfort with public speaking
