Peer Online Course Review (POCR)

What Is POCR?

Peer Online Course Review (POCR) is a support system designed to help faculty provide quality online courses and participate in the CVC Exchange.

The California Virtual Campus - Online Education Initiative (CVC-OEI) Exchange, created to close equity and enrollment gaps, allows two- and four-year students to register for courses across participating California Community Colleges.

Courses run through POCR:

  • Earn a Quality Reviewed badge indicating that it "incorporates best practices in online course design, interaction, and accessibility to support student success" (California Virtual Campus - Online Education Initiative, 2019).
  • Appear first on the list of courses when students search the CVC Exchange.
  • Represent excellence in accessible and inclusive course design and full alignment with the CVC-OEI Course Design Rubric.

How Does POCR Work at Chabot?

Chabot College breaks the work of POCR into two phases.

Phase One: COOL (Committee on Online Learning) is a 12-week peer review and revision program where participants begin aligning their course(s). It runs twice per year.

Phase Two: POCR is an ongoing, self-paced program which builds on the work completed in COOL. It readies courses for state certification and inclusion on the CVC Exchange.

Faculty participants receive feedback and support along the way from mentors across the disciplines, trained accessibility experts, and instructional designers. We also encourage participation in workshops, office hours, and one-on-one appointments.
