Peer to Career Pipeline
The Peer to Career Pipeline is a servant leadership program at Chabot College offered through the General Counseling Division. It provides a pathway for students looking to gain employment as Peer Guides & Wellness Ambassadors at the college while pursuing degrees and/or certificates in fields such as Social Work & Human Services, Behavioral Health, Psychology, Sociology, Education, and more. All students are welcome to apply!
Application & Interview Process
- Review job description and minimum qualifications for the track you choose
- Complete application and submit resume and cover letter
- Applicants selected will interviewed in early May
- Students accepted will be notified by mid-May
- Program Orientation - May 27th 9-1pm
Peer Guide Traineeship Summer 2023
- Entering in the Peer Guide Traineeship begins the journey of becoming a Peer Guide
or Wellness Ambassador. It focuses on developing the foundational skills that are
essential in the work that you will do. These include:
- Soft Skills - Learn and practice Cultural Humility, Empathic Listening, Reflective Communication, and Self-Care
- Knowledge Skills - Learn to navigate Chabot website, Student Services and Classweb
- 2023 Trainingship Dates - TBA
Peer Guide & Wellness Ambassador Internships - Fall 2023 & Spring 2024
Upon successful completion of the trainingship, students become eligible for the Peer Guide &/or Wellness Ambassador internships. During the internships, Peer Interns and Wellness Ambassadors will be provided with continued training and supervision as they begin to provide peer support to students in both virtual and in-person capacities.
- Peer Guide Internship - Peer Interns can expect to work 8-12 hours/week
- Fall Internship Orientation - TBA
- Fall Intern Trainings - Mon 12-2pm and Fri 10-12pm
- Wellness Ambassadors can expect to work ~ 6 hours/week
- Dates and times - TBA
Mentorship
- After completing the yearlong internship program, students may be selected to become Peer Guide or Wellness Ambassador Mentors stupport the development of new Peer Guide or Wellness Ambassadors interns.
Outcomes
- Transfer - Receive transfer preparation and support from program counselors
- Internships - Apply for internships with community based organizations that are partnering with Chabot College
- Degrees & Certificates from Chabot - receive guidance in obtaining degrees and certificates from Chabot College that will provide the skill set needed for transfer and to work within the fields related to Human Services.
