FAQs for Employer Career Fair Participants
What will be the format of the career fair?
Each employer will have a designated area with a 6ft rectangle table and two chairs. There will be 10 employers. At 12:00pm, there will be a brief welcome address to thank all the employers for attending. Then, students will be allowed to enter the employer area and visit any of the employer tables to ask questions and get information. At 1:40pm, staff will begin to inform you and students that the event will end at 2:00pm.
What can I bring?
Common materials employers bring are their job postings, flyers, company informational handouts, business cards, signage, and promotional items/swag. Along with collecting resumes, employers will sometimes have a signup sheet or spreadsheet for students to enter their information if they are interested in your positions.
What can I expect from students?
This career fair is for the general student population. You can expect to have a wide range of students from entry level to those with established backgrounds, and even career explorers which are students who come to the career fair to learn about different careers and your organization. Some students will come prepared, having done their research and ready to ask questions while others will not be as prepared. This career fair will also be open to the community so you might have non-students visiting your table.
Will lunch be provided?
There will be up to two boxed sandwich lunches provided for each employer organization. There will be a certain number of sandwiches that are turkey, ham, roast beef, or veggie. The sides include a variety of pasta, fruit, potato salad and a dessert cookie or brownie. For drinks, water and sodas will be available. If you have any preferences, please contact the career fair coordinator.
What kind of marketing will be done to get students to come?
There will be multiple modes of marketing to students that include flyer handouts, flyers on flyer boards, sandwich boards placed around campus, email blasts, website updates/banners, social media, classroom announcements, communication with academic departments/programs, communication to student services, communication to counselors, and communication to student organizations. These are the primary modes of marketing to students.
What if I encounter any inappropriate students during the fair?
If you ever experience a student being inappropriate, you can inform any of the career fair staff members and we can talk to the student or if necessary, have campus safety assist with the situation. This is not a common incident, but we do value and encourage students to be respectful and professional and will take any reports of inappropriate behavior seriously.
Is there a fee?
There is a $50 career fair fee which is used to pay for lunch, marketing, and event materials. You can pay by credit card, check, or cash.
