PARTI: Practical, Anti-Racist, Teaching Institute

Come Join the PARTI!

Chabot College's Practical, Anti-Racist, Teaching Institute

6 instructors standing side by side

Transform your classroom into a joyful, equitable, learning-centered space for yourself and students, a place where our community’s hopes and dreams are recognized and cultivated!

Program and Area Review data reveals that every division can do much more to support Black and Brown students who have been historically and systematically marginalized. Our communities are facing intensified racialized and genderized violence, attacks on human rights and a challenging educational landscape. As a response to these challenges, the state chancellor will be introducing new policies regarding culturally responsive teaching standards. It is an exciting time to come together in solidarity to transform our institution and shift our teaching practices.

We invite you to deepen your journey to learn about and implement anti-racist teaching practices. The institute is the space to interrogate your teaching practice and stretch your thinking, so that our Black and Brown students will thrive and flourish in your classroom.

“A highlight to me with PARTI is that it really strengthened my feeling of belonging in the community. In previous colleges  I always felt pretty isolated starting out and didn't really feel empowered to do anything more than my expected duties in the classroom. Being in
regular conversation with other folks from across the college made me excited and more daring/confident to do things that can elicit change outside of the classroom.” - PARTI Participant, 2022-23

“I am really determined to not ‘lecture’ so much and use more active-learning techniques. Through PARTI, I have learnt multiple ways to do that. I have also successfully used a lot of trust-generators with my students. PARTI has also forced me to think deeply about teaching and cultural responsiveness for the first time in my career.” - PARTI Participant 2022-23

“This type of experience is necessary to grow as an individual and to challenge yourself on figuring out ‘Why do you do what you do?’. The intentionality of choosing a focal student to support taught me valuable lessons about my internal biases. The meetings provided me with resources, support and suggestions on how to improve.  I thoroughly enjoyed the process, activities, discussions and various points of view during our sessions.” - Participant in a 2019 equity pedagogy institute facilitated by CCEPG
