Evacuation Procedures
- Evacuation of all buildings will occur when a fire alarm sounds or upon notification
by CAMPUS SAFETY, MANAGER, OR ADMINISTRATOR.
- Be aware of all the exits in the area and Know the evacuation routes in your work
area.
- If necessary, activate the building alarm. CAUTION: THE FIRE ALARM SOUNDS ONLY IN THE BUILDING IN WHICH ALARM ACTIVATED.
- When the building fire alarm is sounded, walk quickly to the nearest exit.
- Assist the disabled in exiting the building. Specific suggestions for assisting a
disabled person to evacuate:
- Visually Impaired/Blind: Have the person take your elbow and guide him/her to a safe area. Inform the individual
where he/she is and explain what the next procedure(s) will be.
- Hearing Impaired/Deaf: The individual may not have heard a warning device or Communicate with a short written
message or speak slowly and directly to the person. Use a minimum of words. Gesture
toward an exit or place of safety.
- Wheelchair Users: Depending on the emergency, certain actions should be Consult the individual:
- If the disabled person must wait for exits to clear, try to assign someone to wait with him/her. Evacuate as soon as feasible.
- If it is possible to push the wheelchair safely and quickly without blocking exits, do
