JAPN 1B - Elementary Japanese    ( 5.00 - Units )
Further study of Japanese-speaking cultures of the world featuring the acquisition of the four language skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) of Japanese begun in Japanese 1A. Following an immersion instruction format, the class is entirely taught in the target world language of the selected course.

Student Learning Outcomes (SLO)
  1. Demonstrate proficiency orally, the use of grammatical structures presented and vocabulary assigned.
  2. Demonstrate proficiency and use in writing, the grammatical structures presented and vocabulary assigned.
  3. Demonstrate an appreciation of the culture, including formative historical events and relevant geographical information.

JAPN 1A - Beginning Japanese    ( 5.00 - Units )
Introduction to the Japanese cultures of the world featuring the study and practice of the four language skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) of Japanese. Following an immersion instruction format, the class is entirely taught in the target world language of the selected course.

  1. Demonstrate proficiency orally, the use of grammatical structures presented and vocabulary assigned.
  2. Demonstrate proficiency in writing, the grammatical structures presented and vocabulary assigned.
  3. Demonstrate an appreciation of the culture, including formative historical events and relevant geographical information.

JAPN 2A - Intermediate Japanese    ( 4.00 - Units )
Review of grammar; practice in conversation and composition; research on topics related to Japan. Following an immersion instruction format, the class is entirely taught in the target world language of the selected course.

Advanced review of grammar; practice in conversation and composition; research on topics related to Japan. Following an immersion instruction format, the class is entirely taught in the target world language of the selected course.

JAPN 50D - Japanese Conversation and Culture IV    ( 3.00 - Units )
Continuation of skills developed in Japanese 50C. Continues to develop and apply conversational Japanese skills. Pronunciation, vocabulary, sentences and applied grammar will be covered. Further study of the daily life and cultural traditions of Japanese-speaking people. Following an immersion instruction format, the class is entirely taught in the target world language of the selected course.

  2. Demonstrate proficiency in the use of writing, using grammatical structures presented and vocabulary assigned.

JAPN 50C - Japanese Conversation and Culture III    ( 3.00 - Units )
Continuation of skills developed in Japanese 50B. Continues to develop an understanding and application of conversational Japanese. Pronunciation, vocabulary, sentences and applied grammar will be covered. Introduces the everyday life and traditional culture of Japanese-speaking people. Following an immersion instruction format, the class is entirely taught in the target world language of the selected course.
