The pull-down menu is your trick to clearly identify your type of search (keyword, title, author, etc.)
In the home page's tabbed searchbox, notice you have the option to search by Keyword, Title, or Author.
When you are in the Advanced Searchbox of the Catalog or OneSearch, you have other options on the right, including All Text, Author, Title, and Subject Terms. Notice in this case you can place each search term on each line, and then determine from the right pull-down option to cross search words in author, title, and subject, for example.
