Search Tips for the Library Catalog

  • No need to use capital letters.

  • Use an asterisk (*) to truncate, i.e. to find words that have a common root (gun* to find gun, guns, gunnery, etc;)

  • Use a question mark (?) to substitute for any single letter (wom?n to find both woman and women).

  • Remember to use the word AND in between search terms (unless you are in Advanced Search mode.  Then place each search term on each line).  REMEMBER THAT IN MOST CASES SEARCH TERMS ARE EITHER ONE WORD OR TWO WORD PHRASES.  DO NOT ENTER LONG PHRASES.
  •
  • If at the home page and you are using the tabbed search box, remember you can limit your search from that point to produce more selected focused searches.
