Edith Leni
Faculty
Dr. Edith Leni, originally from Santiago, Chile, brings her rich cultural heritage to both her teaching and scholarship. She earned her Ph.D. in Iberian and Latin American Cultures from Stanford University and has spent nearly 20 years teaching Spanish language and culture at public and private institutions throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. She is particularly passionate about working with heritage speakers and second-language learners alike, designing student-centered courses that cultivate language proficiency, critical thinking, and deep cultural exploration.
Her research examines social trauma, collective memory, and indigenous cultures and histories, with a special focus on the Andes and broader Latin America. Outside the classroom, Dr. Leni pursues her love of Quechua language learning and enjoys playing guitar and singing Andean and Latin American folk songs with friends.
