Tutor Training Requirements
Interested in working as a tutor?
Chabot students who are hired to work as peer tutors in the Learning Connection program will need to complete the training requirements listed below.
First Semester
During your first semester working as a peer tutor, you will need to complete the following trainings:
- New Tutor Program Orientation & Equity Training
- required for ALL new tutors (peer tutors, embedded tutors, Comm Lab lead tutors)
- paid training; typically held on a Saturday during the first or second week of the semester
- additional paid asynchronous activities completed online through the Learning Connection Canvas site
- TUTR 1A: general tutor training course required for peer and embedded tutors
- free, 0.5 unit P/NP class
- one face-to-face meeting held within the first few weeks of the semester; additional 7.5 hours completed asynchronously online
- be sure you enroll in the class section for PEER tutors; there is another class section for embedded tutors
- TUTR 2A: content-area training course required for peer and embedded tutors
- free, 0.5 unit P/NP class
- sections are discipline specific and the meeting dates/times/modalities varies across disciplines. Check CLASSWeb for the schedule for the upcoming semester's section details, and contact Rachael, our Sr. Administrative Assistant, at RTupper-Eoff@chabotcollege.edu if you have any questions about which section you should enroll in.
Second Semester
During your second semester working as a peer tutor, you will need to complete the following trainings:
- TUTR 1B: general tutor training course required for peer and embedded tutors
- free, 0.5 unit P/NP class
- one face-to-face meeting held within the first few weeks of the semester; additional 7.5 hours completed asynchronously online
- be sure you enroll in the class section for PEER tutors; there is another class section for embedded tutors
- TUTR 2B: content-area training course required for peer and embedded tutors
- free, 0.5 unit P/NP class
