Two
Types of Periodical Article Databases
Which
database to use depends upon your topic.
1. General Periodical Databases
- Is
your topic general or cross-disciplinary?
- Currently
in the news?
If so, start
with one of the All Subject periodical databases. These cover a wide range
of subjects and often index a mixture of popular
and scholarly sources. This is often a good place to
begin research. Examples of general indexes and the kinds of articles
they identify are:
|
EbscoHost Academic Search Premier indexes articles from magazines and journals on a range of topics
from 1985 to present. Most are full text. |
|
LexisNexis Academic indexes
articles from newspapers, magazines, and legal journals on a
range of topics from 1975 to present. Almost all are full text. |
|
ProQuest Diversity Databases (Alt-Press Watch, Ethnic
NewsWatch, and Gender Watch) indexes articles from the
alternative presses, which include newspapers, magazines, and
journals on a range of topics from 1990 to present. Most
are full text. |
